“I've joined the Form Workshop Cad Logic course to help me develop my understanding of computational design, and the course did not disappoint! It was a pleasure joining the lectures every week as Professor Skåtar illustrated many techniques to learn from. Professor Skåtar made it a very joyful experience with his engaging and interesting teaching style, and he has been very supportive. During the course, I was trying to learn how to use computational methods to help me with my design project. Thus, the form I developed was part of my initial design project studies. Later on, my design changed a little, but I was able to use my understanding of how to create organic architectural forms and interesting patterns. It was a pleasure to join this course.”

The initial tutorials helped me to gain the basic knowledge of Grasshopper and understand its potential, also if used in combination with Rhinoceros. My skills improved afterward, during the individual design development, searching for solutions to achieve the aimed result.”

The good thing that I really appreciated is that the class was divided into groups of different levels of knowledge and complexity of problem-solving. Prof. Fredrik Skåtar gives his best on helping us develop our design progress faster, easier, and always makes it fun. We learn a lot by talking and developing our thinking and approach to the design process of generating algorithms. Important is that he gets involved in the thinking, not only solving the problem of the geometry of finding the solution but also helps to develop logical thinking and builds on us a fabrication and assembly competences.
Anything is possible to make using Grasshopper, and AI will not take over soon. So we can use this knowledge to push the limits of our profession.
I am honestly thankful, for all your effort and hard job that you do, to make our learning process easy and fun. Finally, it is always fun to meet, work and talk together.”
— Master student, Dessau Institute of Architecture, 2020. “I attended ‘Form Workshop’, which is the Cad Logic course by Fredrik Skatar in DIA Dessau, in my 1st and 2nd semesters of Master’s. Honestly, I didn't know anything about Grasshopper, so I can say that I started from scratch. The structure of the course is as follows, Fredrik starts the lesson by following the tutorials on his website for each lesson. These tutorials consist of key forms to be able to think creatively in Grasshopper. In the remaining part of the lesson, he advises all students face-to-face on the student's final idea. In the second semester, all students were divided into groups according to their level to get more accurate guidance. Thus, we were able to provide maximum counseling in one-on-one meetings. For me, one of the good things about the lesson was that it was possible to repeat the lesson at home, as it went parallel with skatar.com. But the most motivating factor for me in joining the course twice was to use Grasshopper not just to make ‘cool-looking parametric shapes’ but to provide rational solutions on how to apply the design in real life.”
