FIELD TRIPS

Since 2012, Fredrik Skåtar has conducted field trips to a broad range of architecturally interesting desitinations to gather data. The field trips are conducted both in an academic context, as part of university courses, and in the commercial sector, commisioned by architecture studios, engineering offices and project managers from mixed fields.

FLANDERS:
Antwerp, Ghent, Brussels

Fredrik Skåtar has conducted several field trips to Flanders, Belgium, to gather examples and data on the region’s exemplary architectural approach. With uniquely influential city architects (Bouwmeester) in leading positions, Flanders is a role model for promoting architectural diversity and long-term qualitative urban planning.

Since 2018, Fredrik Skåtar has conducted five field trips to Antwerp, Ghent and Brussels with architectural offices and students.
BERLIN

History has undoubtedly impacted the urban structure of Berlin, and the city is still arguably divided to some extent. However, the unification process has enabled the construction of unique, centrally located infrastructure and architecture. On top of that, Berlin offers prominent examples of 20th-century buildings and works of contemporary architects.

Since 2012, Fredrik Skåtar has conducted nearly 30 field trips to Berlin with architectural offices and students.
Stuttgart

Stuttgart is one of Germany’s economic engines and offers a broad range of beautiful, innovative historic and contemporary architecture. Most famous is perhaps the vast new station project: Stuttgart21. The transformation from a terminus station to a highspeed rail tunnel under the hills is significant for the EU on a large scale. But on a local scale, the new station has also transformed the city.
Berlin region:
Potsdam, Dessau, Leipzig

East Germany has fought its way into the EU economy and still has some development ahead. Already now, we can see a significant architectural transformation. Potsdam has refurbished its once so famous core and even rebuilt several historical buildings. Potsdam is flourishing more than any East German city. Dessau still has its renowned Bauhaus architecture, and Leipzig is one of the EU’s most livable cities.
