Ghent has many new experimental and innovative architectural projects of various scales. We visit large projects, such as the new city library De Krook and Boekentoren and small dwellings, many of them incorporated into an existing structure in interesting ways. We also present an overview of the city: its history, city planning and current strategies for the future, deriving from the Bouwmeester — a politically independent architect hired by the state who organises new architectural developments.
